Khalifa: Queen in the Apocalypse

Chapter 90: Encounter

Chapter 90: Encounter

Several hours earlier.

"Finally!"

Hugo exclaimed as he wrapped up his things and escaped this damned place.

Speaking of, he was quite lucky. Through a bit of luck and serendipity, he had finally finished his part in the weapons research and was finally let go.

He rushed to get his phone but the damned battery was dead, and he was too lazy to wait for it to charge before moving.

It was just that as he left, the red-head decided to follow him out.

"No." He said, frowning. Why would he keep her hanging on to him when he was finally free and had options?

Not to mention, his Mermaid was waiting for him!

"And you can’t get out of this place just because you wanted to."

She flashed her pass with a smile, making his eye twitch.

"I forgot to tell you, one of the Head Researchers above is my dad."

Tsk. He, the main contributor for a weapon line, didn’t have freedom, but the woman did.

Tsk.

"Damned Nepotism."

In any case, he didn’t have a choice but to take her with him lest she made a scene or worse—get him to stay.

So just like that, they entered his armored SUV that had been parked for weeks, unused and dusty, and finally left the laboratory (after signing another set of NDAs, of course).

His auburn eyes couldn’t help but look at the rear view mirror, seeing the place get farther and farther from him.

As he drove, he couldn’t help but recall the short but hectic weeks he spent in this space.

He cringed.

His gun had managed to finally hit a target a hundred meters away with plasma, without its body heating up or the composition exploding midway. After a couple of tweaks, the initial model was then deemed usable.

It was an arduous journey but very meaningful. He had already asked to get 1% of the weapons produced by the factory.

Of course, he was expressly prohibited from selling to other countries or hostile forces.

Whatever the case, he was finally free!

It was already kind enough for the country to let him out intact. In fact, he was still half expecting assassins to try and take his life.

But what he would actually encounter outside was much worse though. But he didn’t know it at that time.

So, without further ado, he excitedly drove his car and headed to his main villa in the eastern mountain ranges, not too far from the capital where they stood.

His mountain, to be precise, was about seven or eight hours drive away from the main city. It was a small fortress with the majority of its rooms dug inside the landform. There were also a number of villas and amenities above ground for normal living as well as camouflage.

It had complete facilities, built by his predecessors who had a very real fear of being hunted down.

Now, years later, it was cheaper for him.

The area was a strictly no fly zone, so he couldn’t even call his helicopter.

In the end, he just decided to go to one of his houses an hour or so away and rest there. He would be picked up by the helicopter there instead.

Who’d have thought they would be greeted with monsters halfway there?

They were disgusting creatures in former human skin. They moved in creepy ways, as if their bones were bent, their skin was graying and filled with pus, their eyes were white, and their mouths parted and drooling for their next meal (which happened to be them).

It was terrifying, but thankfully his car was a well-fitted SUV type and they managed to get by without losing power.

He also had a couple of guns inside, and they managed to keep themselves safe after so long.

All the while, the woman beside him only screamed, crying as she hugged him, though not forgetting to rub her ample breasts against his arm.

Unfortunately, the sight of the zombies and their innards were too disgusting it was impossible for him to be aroused.

At this time a few more zombies found their way in front of his car. While Hugo just ran them over, the woman screamed to the top of her lungs, "What the heck!!"

"How should I know?" He asked back, voice rising a little in annoyance, but otherwise still cold.

"I’ll call dad." She said, but a moment later her voice cracked. "There’s no signal!"

He frowned and looked at his phone charging in the car.

Zero signal.

Fuck.

In any case, they remained on the planned path, because he had weapons and supplies in the villa.

They managed to run for a few more hours and soon saw less dense communities with fewer zombies. Soon, they finally reached the gate of the villa area. To be honest, he was expecting to face a bit of a mob.

Interestingly, there was a lack of zombies in the area instead. While the population in this area at this time should be very few, this is... too few?

As they drove further, they saw a bit more zombies, but they were ignoring them and were heading to another direction instead. Listening closer, there were definitely strong sounds of crashing not far away from them.

There was definitely someone so noisy that they attracted all the zombies in the area.

Well, it had nothing to do with him, and he continued driving to his villa.

It didn’t take long for them to see what was making all the ruckus: A monster truck carelessly crushing all in its path.

At first, although he was taken aback, he just watched carelessly and with a bit of interest. How often would one be able to watch a monster truck crushing zombies without a care? Anyway, he wasn’t even within the car’s path.

But then it turned erratically and changed directions for no reason at all and went straight to them!

"Fuck!"

He could only press his horn as he backed away, trying to avoid the crash.

Then it stopped. And he thought he had barely escaped death.

Now that the shock had passed the terror was quickly replaced by anger, and he prepared to open his window to give the bastard a piece of his mind. "Damn it! This bastard!!"

The other person’s window opened revealing a suspicious hooded person with a mask. The type that looked like a thief.

He narrowed his eyes, preparing to send a torrent of curses, when the person opened her mouth to speak.

It was that melodious voice he could recognize anywhere!

Immediately, he felt his raging heart lit up with a different type of flame.
