?Chapter 88: Chapter 88 Exposed Like This_1 Chapter 88: Chapter 88 Exposed Like This_1 Xia Qingtian swallowed her saliva.
Her plan was to hint furiously to the old man as soon as the call was answered that Bo Jingyan was present, and he shouldn’t say anything wrong.
Bo Jingyan was almost devilishly cunning.
He saw through her plan at a glance and warned her before the call was answered, “Xia Qingtian, I’m warning you, don’t make a sound. If you do, you’re finished.”
A hint of anxiety flashed across Xia Qingtian’s face.
Bo Jingyan didn’t miss the expression on her face; his eyes turned even gloomier.
Then, he answered the call.
“Qingqing, I am apologizing for Jingyan. Please not divorce him. And please don’t sign any divorce agreement he sent you, OK?” As soon as Bo’s grandfather answered, he prattled a lot.
He still felt uneasy, even after speaking to Bo Jingyan.
Even though he had warned Bo Jingyan, the young man was obstinate and had his own ideas.
He was worried that Bo Jingyan would disregard his words and still intend to divorce Xia Qingtian.
And Xia Qingtian might even impulsively agree.
If the two young people end up picking up the divorce certificate, it would be impossible to reverse.
To have them take their marriage certificates again would be near-impossible.
After some consideration, he decided to call Xia Qingtian and remind her.
Hearing his grandfather’s words, Xia Qingtian wanted to interrupt him, but it was already too late.
Her face turned pale.
Bo Jingyan heard everything he should and shouldn’t have.
“Grandfather…” Bo Jingyan spoke up.
Hearing his voice, Grandfather Bo was momentarily startled on the other side of the line.
Uh…
Did he dial the wrong number?
Thinking so, he checked his phone and realized he had not made a mistake.
“You rascal, are you with Qingqing?” He suddenly understood.
Bo Jingyan glanced sharply at the woman whose face had turned pale, sarcasm lacing his tone, “Perhaps.”
“You little rascal, I warn you not to bully Qingqing, or you’ll face family punishment,” warned Grandfather Bo.
“Huh, how dare I?” Bo Jingyan chuckled, but his laughter held no warmth, only an oppressive chill that was intimidating.
“Grandfather, we’re about to have breakfast. We’ll have to excuse us.”
With that, he hung up.
Grandfather Bo looked at his phone, lost in thought.
It seemed like he had revealed Qingqing’s identity.
But it should be fine, right?
The rascal was already into Qingqing’s other persona.
Knowing now, that the woman he likes is his own wife, he should be happy and wouldn’t want a divorce anymore.
He had originally planned to give him a surprise for the company’s 60th anniversary celebration.
Giving the surprise ahead of time shouldn’t be a problem.
Thinking so, Grandfather Bo nodded contentedly.
The young couple should be enjoying their breakfast harmoniously now.
Yet, unfortunately, reality proved otherwise.
The atmosphere between Bo Jingyan and Xia Qingtian was vastly different from what he had imagined.
“Xia Qingtian, do you have anything to say?” Bo Jingyan’s face was icy, while his grip on his phone tightened.
Realizing something, he glanced at the woman’s pure face, “Or should I call you Shen Qing?”
Xia Qingtian was frightened by his cold expression.
She knew Bo Jingyan was very angry now.
If she admits her identity now, it would add fuel to the flame.
He would certainly kill her.
Xia Qingtian was scared by this thought.
Her eyes were slightly reddish as she quickly shook her head to deny it, “No, I am not Shen Qing!”
She couldn’t let Bo Jingyan figure out the truth.
“Then explain to me, what was that phone call all about?” Bo Jingyan gripped her hand tighter to the point of crushing her wrist.
The intense pain from her wrist made Xia Qingtian calm down a bit.
Her survival instinct drove her brain to work quickly.
“This…this isn’t my phone,” Xia Qingtian finally figured out an excuse.
She hurriedly explained, “This is my best friend Shen Qing’s phone. We bought the same model and got them mixed up while shopping yesterday.”
“Really?” Bo Jingyan squinted his eyes, seemingly gauging the truth of her words.
“It’s true, I swear I’m not lying. Please trust me!” Xia Qingtian said, vehemently shaking her head.
Seeing this, Bo Jingyan’s face didn’t soften; it downright turned colder.
“Xia Qingtian, do you think I’m stupid?” he sneered. “If you got our phones mixed up, how could you have answered my call this morning?”
He had even talked about divorce with Shen Qing last night.
Xia Qingtian’s expression froze for a moment.
She was too nervous and completely forgot about this important factor.
What now?
What to do?
Xia Qingtian’s brain was whirling at top speed.
“That’s because…” she licked her cracked lips nervously. “We got our phones mixed up this morning.”
“Shen Qing and I hadn’t seen each other for a long time. We couldn’t bear to depart after shopping yesterday, so I invited her over for a sleepover.”
“The reason I woke up so late today is because we chatted till late last night. We only went to sleep around three in the morning.”
Bo Jingyan wouldn’t believe her so easily, “What were you guys chatting about till that late?”
Xia Qingtian continued smoothly, “Shen Qing received your call yesterday. You spoke about divorce, and she was upset. I was comforting her.”
To demonstrate her sincerity and honesty, she lifted her gaze, giving Bo Jingyan complete access to her eyes.
She was almost on the verge of crying.
Her eyes were still slightly moist at the moment.
Her eyes, washed over by the moisture of tears, were exceptionally pure and moving, just like the sky after a cleansing rain.
Bo Jingyan looked into those eyes and remembered that night.
That night, he didn’t see the woman’s face clearly, but he remembered those eyes that were brighter than the morning star.
That memory softened his resolve.
“Is it really so?” his gaze softened.
Sensing the change in Bo Jingyan’s demeanor, Xia Qingtian sighed in relief.
“It’s true, absolutely true. If you don’t believe me, I can call Shen Qing to come over. Then, we can swap the phones back in front of you,” she proposed tentatively.
Xia Qingtian was gambling.
Betting on Bo Jingyan hating Shen Qing.
He wouldn’t want to meet Shen Qing.
And he wouldn’t want to waste time waiting for Shen Qing to come over and swap the phones.
“No need for that,” Bo Jingyan, picking up on the panic in Xia Qingtian’s eyes, refused with a grim expression.
Xia Qingtian’s tensed back suddenly relaxed.
Bo Jingyan’s deep eyes flickered.
Realizing that Xia Qingtian didn’t really want to switch their phones back in his presence, he found it odd.
His gaze swept across her pure face.
Remembering how pale and teary-eyed she was earlier, he decided not to frighten her any further.
Whether she was Shen Qing or not was no longer necessary to ask. He had already received the investigator’s report. All he had to do was to glance at it to confirm everything.
